New Products and Features
Tactical
Shelter Systems™ solutions
introduced
ETI has teamed with
Utilis USA to offer complete systems solutions for deployable
shelters. Utilis manufactures a series of rapidly deployable tactical soft-wall shelters that
incorporate a patented state-of-the-art folding-frame design. The basic shelters can
be fully erected by two people in less than 3-minutes. By combining ETI's
portable power sources, power conditioning, power distribution, office systems
and shelter HVAC, either company can offer a total solution to deployable
shelter requirements. A new web site,
TacticalShelterSystems.com,
has been setup to provide information on the individual components as well as
the various systems solutions available.
Tactical Solar®
lines further expanded with addition of Tactical
Solar Shelters™
ETI has further expanded its very popular
Tactical Solar
product
line, now offering the most complete line of deployable solar power
equipment available anywhere. Originally developed for use by today's Warfighter overseas,
it equally well suited for First Responders and other Emergency Services here in the Homeland. Developed for rapid
deployment, Tactical Solar products include both fixed and flexible
solar panels, solar charge controllers, battery modules and solar UPS systems.
Units can be used to charge batteries in computers and communications gear
and/or to operate the equipment directly. AC output
voltages are also available. Most of these units are integrated into self contained
briefcases and transit cases providing protection for the equipments as well as quick setup in
as little as two minutes. Besides operating from solar panels, the same systems
can use either DC power from
military or emergency vehicles or any AC source available. The new Tactical Solar Shelters offer up to 1280
watts of solar power for each 10' x 20' shelter section. This solar covering
also serves to further insulate the shelter reducing power required for heating/cooling
of the shelter. More details can be found at
Tactical Shelter
Systems or Tactical Solar.
Tactical Wind
Turbines™ add more green energy to ETI lineup
ETI has also introduced its line of lighter-weight, quieter, Tactical Wind
Turbines™ which are designed to either operate stand-alone or work with the
Tactical Solar products as a hybrid system. Available in a variety of sizes, the 5-blade turbine shown above can generate 1200
watts, yet only weighs 50 pounds. The telescoping mast is constructed of carbon
fiber making it strong yet light weight. A single intelligent controller
converts either or both wind power and solar power to useful power sources. The
entire system can be easily setup by two people in a few minutes. More details can be found at
the websites for
Tactical Shelter Systems or
Tactical Wind
Turbines.
Tactical ECU™ line expanded for deployable shelter systems
With wide temperature ranges impacting the operation and performance of
computers and communications gear in the field, ETI now offers cooling and
heating solutions. Available in portable transit cases or in fixed mount units
(trailer/vehicle mount), these rugged Environmental Control Units (ECU) provide
air conditioning that allows use of COTS gear in harsh environments. Besides
flexibility and high reliability, these ECUs also offer optional intelligent
features of local and/or remote monitoring and control of the ECU units and the
user's supported equipment. User intelligent interfaces include SNMP and HTTP.

Tactical
Office™, Tactical Computer Workstation® and Tactical Data Vault® lines
introduced
ETI now offers the most complete line of deployable
field office equipment for use by today's Warfighter overseas as
well
as the First Responders, Disaster Relief and other Emergency Services that
need to setup offices quickly anywhere. Developed for rapid
deployment to anywhere in the world, the
Tactical Office
product line includes a one or two person Tactical Desk™
workstation; built-in global power conditioning (GPC)
and/or global UPS systems; notebook computer support; task
lighting plus Tactical Solar power options. The Tactical Desk ships as a small,
light-weight transit case cube with wheels that unfolds into the workspace and
storage of a modern office desk. As with most offices today, there is a demand
for good quality power for the computers and peripheral devices. The Tactical
Desk is available with built-in options to take what
AC or DC power may be available to electronically generate quality
power. These power units are available with internal batteries as well providing
complete UPS backup. For locations that may not have any power, the Tactical
Solar options provide the needed power during daylight hours while storing
energy for use in the evenings. More details can be found at the website for
Tactical Office.
To meet the need for computing in harsh environments,
ETI has introduced the Tactical Computer Workstation (TCW) line. These units
have all of the features of a modern desktop computer workstation but is
portable in a rugged transit case. It has the ability to operate in wide temperature ranges,
survive shock and vibration and use power from any AC or DC source. With no
moving parts and low energy consumption, the TCW has increased reliability
compared to other computers. The low energy requirement also means much longer
battery times. Equipped with the solid-state Tactical Data Vault (TDV) instead
of a traditional hard drive, the TCW has data security with 10-year retention
impervious to magnetic fields. The Tactical Computer Workstation is also
available as a built-in option to the Tactical Office.
More details can be found at the website for
Tactical Computer
Workstation.
Tactical Generator®
and Tactical Power Plant® lines expanded
In response to the requests of our
customers, ETI has expanded its line of deployable JP-8/JP-5/diesel fueled power
generating equipment for use by the Warfighter overseas as well as in Homeland
Security. ETI offers the only Generators that can produce Computer Grade or
Medical Grade Power at DC, 50, 60 and 400 Hz power from one unit. This
means one part number can be used in multiple applications around the world.
Building upon this Generator technology, the Tactical Power Plant goes further
providing a total power solution. It has the ability to accept energy from any
AC source, DC from vehicles and external fuel sources, to deliver continuous
Uninterrupted Power to the critical loads under all circumstances. Intelligent automated monitoring and control allows unattended operation. ETI
also offers a Stealth version of the Tactical Generator and Tactical Power Plant. A
specially designed transit case allows these units to be operated with the
covers closed, further reducing the overall noise level and heat signature. More details can be found at the website for
Tactical Generators.
Extreme
UPS®
line of UPS and Power Conditioners Handle both High and Low Temperature
Environments and Harsh Loads
Extreme UPS
are temperature hardened products in service around
the world in unconditioned hostile environments. Most commercial UPS and Power
Conditioning products are designed for controlled environments as found in
computer rooms. The best of these have operating ratings of 0ºC
to +40ºC (32ºF to +104ºF).
However, in uncontrolled environments such as outdoor applications, those
competing units typically fail due to temperature. Utilizing our certified
environmental test chambers, ETI
has designed and qualified the Extreme UPS line to operating temperatures
of -40ºC to +65ºC (-40ºF
to +149ºF). Besides supporting electronics loads, these units are designed
to power some of the worst electrical loads including motors, solenoids and
contactors with very high inrush which cause most UPS to fail instantly. More
details can be found at the website for
Extreme Power
Source.

Rugged, Not Ruggedized
(Subtitled, "Not all COTS Products are Created Equal")
Most products sold in the rugged market start out as desktop or consumer
products (Commercial Off The Shelf otherwise known as COTS). These
vendors will attempt to "ruggedize" their product to compete in the
rugged market.
These ruggedized COTS products usually fail due to either temperature, mechanical shock or vibration
requirements since they were not designed to withstand these extremes!
ETI's products start out rugged whether for COTS or full MilSpec
applications. They are designed to and meet Military Environmental Standards. ETI's
products have successfully passed these tests numerous times including Mil STDs 167-1, 810,
901D plus surviving the vehicle mounted endurance tests in the notorious Belgium Block and
the explosive charges in the Barge tests.
Not
the Least Expensive, But the Lowest Total Ownership Cost (TOC)
In making product evaluations today, the wise decision makers base their
conclusions using Total Ownership Cost or TOC. Considering all factors,
ETI products have
the lowest TOC due to their overall performance and reliability. Besides the
initial product cost, areas to consider are Installation, Training, Maintenance,
Spares and Uptime. Products such as the ETI0001-N5 series integrate features
that reduce the overall space and installation costs. Defense services and support contractors
are already experienced with ETI designs and the products' operation. Manpower
is a very significant factor in TOC. Very high reliability means minimal
maintenance, which results in minimal manpower requirements. Once the ETI units
are installed, they require very little or no preventative maintenance to keep
them operational over the years. Very high reliability means a negligible spare
parts requirement. If spares are desired, one set per site would be more than
adequate for years of operation. Very high reliability means maximum operational
uptime. Since failures usually interrupt operations at the most crucial times
and since UPS or PDU reliability impacts multiple downstream loads, minimizing
failures or downtime is imperative. ETI has field proven very high reliability
and uptime. The Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) exceeds 250,000 hours and the
Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) is less than one half hour on most ETI products!
